The Mainlander accepts story ideas covering a wide range of issues connected to Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
A good Mainlander article gives the reader context to a pressing news story, with a progressive perspective the mainstream media often fails to represent. Articles should be written for the general, yet informed and socially engaged, reader. One of our editors has offered a few rules of thumb: “No academic, esoteric language. Verbs, not adjectives. Show the reader, don’t tell them.”
In your article pitches to The Mainlander, please demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the topic at hand and how you intend to shape your ideas in the writing phase. We want to be able to imagine the piece by reading your pitch.
If you have an article idea covering, but not limited to, Indigenous, labour, environmental, feminist and immigrant struggles in Vancouver and you hope to write a compelling, accessible article on the issue, please send it our way.
