Critique of involuntary treatment expansion has focused on urban areas. The consequences will be worse for people in the north.
The Vancouver Public Library (“VPL”) has implemented a branch-wide ban on employees who show symbols of support for the Palestinian people. According to internal workplace memos obtained by The Mainlander and interviews with employees, library management has been enforcing a ban on library workers’ ability to wear signs of support for Palestinians, including the watermelon pin and the keffiyeh.
The bill would have criminalized people that police “believe” consumed drugs outdoors.
On Dec. 18, Vancouver City Council approved the demolition of the Dunsmuir Hotel, a single-room occupancy building with 167 units at the corner of Dunsmuir and Richards Street. The decision marks yet another feather in the cap of property developer Holborn Properties, with plans for a large-scale residential redevelopment of the site.
