Poverty, gentrification, and the war on drugs affect the city of Vancouver, but they are also big issues in BC’s capital city Victoria. Today we’ll be talking to activists from Victoria about how these issues affect their city. They’ll also offer their perspective on Vancouver’s situation and ways that activists in BC’s two largest cities can work together.
- Seb Bonet works as the Research Coordinator at the Vancouver Island Public Interest Research Group. He has been organizing against urban poverty in occupied Lekwungen territories, known colonially as Victoria, for the past four years. He is currently organizing with the Radical Health Alliance collective and with the Committee to End Homelessness.
- Kim Hothead is an anti-poverty, anti-colonial organizer in Victoria. He is active with the Committee to End Homelessness and a co-founder of VICDUU, the Victoria Drug User’s Union.
- Carol Romanow, recently she has lived in Victoria, working with VARCS (Victoria AIDS Resource & Community Service Society) and the Action Committee of People with Disabilities. She now lives in Pitt Meadows and commutes once a week to Vancouver as a volunteer at VANDU.
