Announcing the Mainlander Arts + Culture Supplement

For the past year The Mainlander’s editorial collective has been working to diversify our range of content, deepen our engagement with local politics, and continue to broaden our readership. Included in this initiative is an upcoming web re-design, new members on our editorial collective, and now, the introduction of The MainlanderArts + Culture Supplement.

The Arts + Culture Supplement hopes to foster and support dialogues with the arts through the publication of writing about events in Vancouver, including public lectures, shows, festivals, film screenings and other cultural projects. The supplement will support both established and emerging writers working in the form of narrative essays, art writing, interviews and reviews.

In the past, The Mainlander has covered subjects such as the re-location of the Vancouver Art Gallery and the displacement of a number of artist-run organizations from areas undergoing gentrification. But there’s much more to cover. The Mainlander would like to continue to focus on dislocation and resilience within the arts community, while at the same time moving further to include social commentary and cultural critique practiced by individual artists, designers, writers and cultural organizations in Vancouver.

The Mainlander invites writers to pitch stories to the Arts + Culture Supplement. Please send proposals to steffanie@themainlander.com
